We know about the dangers of depression and how it is on rising in all parts of the world as in India (read more on rising of depression in India). Depression is one of the most common mood disorders and large numbers of people across the world get affected with it. Today, it is very important to understand the symptoms of depression so that we can know if we or any other person around us is suffering from depression. In depression, a person enters a state of low mood and starts feeling very sad and isolated. These people mostly avoid taking interest in life and major activities associated with life. Some of the common symptoms of depression are sadness, lack of hope, no or very less interest in work, lack of concentration, restlessness, and irritable or restless behavior. In patients suffering from depression, we can find all or some of these symptoms. Acute or long-term Depression is bad as it can even lead to the suicide of a depressed person; therefore, it is very important to get proper treatment for depression and we can find many good treatments available in medical science.  Depression can occur due to a number of reasons like failure, fear, illness, guilt, or hopelessness, or may be due to other unknown reasons. Depression can cause problems like stomach disorders, fatigue, Insomnia, excessive sleep, pains, etc. Mostly, people ignore depression and by doing so they later find themselves in a state of acute depression which further leads to a number of other disorders.

 The present lifestyle is also responsible for increasing cases of depression in people because it is encouraging a selfish and self-oriented life; therefore, when people fail to achieve their goals or fail in relationships due to their selfish approach then they generally enter into a phase of depression. The state of depression increases with time; if, we do not get proper treatment. People can also get help from simple techniques like yoga, meditation, and exercise to decrease or avoid the issue of depression. Depression also decreases by participating in activities which we like most like painting, travelling, etc. 

Below, I am sharing common reasons and causes of depression plus how to detect depression. 

Reasons for Depression- 

1) Failure - A person who fails in Life is likely to suffer from depression.

2) Guilt - When we have the guilt of doing something wrong and we stress too much about it then we can enter depression.

3) Hopelessness - Hope is very important in life but when we become hopeless then we lose all hopes of a positive outcome and enter the phase of depression 

4) Illness - Long or prolonged illnesses are also one of the major reasons for depression because due to these illnesses person loses his mental and physical strength. 

5) Fear - Too much fear is a deadly thing and it can destroy any person mentally. 

6) Relationship problems - We live in relationships and these relationships are important for a happy life. But problems in relationships cause unhappiness. 

7) Rejections - It is very difficult for many people to accept rejection and sometimes, people start thinking of themselves as inferior beings after the rejection.

4) No interest in work 

5) Insomnia 

6) Excessive sleep 

7) Lack of concentration 

8) Restlessness
