Recently, I got a chance to watch videos by Indian Travellers on Chinese cities and famous places. Even I watched videos uploaded by other foreigners too. In all these videos, I found one thing very clearly Chinese cities are much cleaner than Indian cities at least where I live. No doubt, India has also improved in cleanliness, but we still need many more efforts and strict control of garbage management. It is the duty of all to make their nation clean and we can't expect this from governments only, the participation of the people is very important. Unfortunately, the attitude of many Indians toward keeping their surroundings clean is not positive. The growth of a nation can not only be rated on the economic level only, but we need a better and cleaner environment too. At many places in small towns and villages in India, there is no proper garbage management system is in place. People are throwing garbage wherever they like, and this is causing a great challenge for the cleanliness of places.
Already, our country is looked down on for bad garbage management and for keeping our surroundings dirty. In such a situation, we need to learn from the Chinese people and government how they are managing their garbage so well and keeping their cities and places clean. Several factors make Chinese cities generally perceived as cleaner than Indian cities. These factors include governance, urban planning, infrastructure, cultural norms, and resources dedicated to cleanliness.
Here are some key reasons:
The first reason is that in China strict government policies are present and their enforcement is done strictly too. The people are fined for littering, spitting and improper disposal of waste products. In India, we do that certain laws but the apathy is that these laws are not implemented strictly. The infrastructure in China has developed to the world level so they have advanced means to manage their garbage and other waste products. The planning of the cities and infrastructure is better than many Indian cities, so we see less dirt on the streets of China as compared to India.
In India, it become hard to find a dustbin at many places. Public participation is another big issue because Indians are not careful in managing their waste products wisely. It is common to see people through their waste here and there which is uncommon in China. The new cities in China are developed in such a way that they are environmentally friendly. China has a large budget allocation for sanitation and infrastructure maintenance as compared to India. They have more waste treatment plants, garbage collection centers and people for cleaning work. Measures like population control have also helped China achieve this advantage in cleanliness. In India, political will is also lacking because many governments fear making strict rules. They believe that people may not vote for them next time if they make strict rules and regulations. India and its people have great lessons to learn from China when it comes to making our cities and villages clean because China has gone much ahead of us in this work.
While India is making efforts to improve cleanliness through initiatives like the "Swachh Bharat Mission", significant challenges remain in terms of infrastructure, public awareness, and resource allocation. In future, we can hope to much cleaner and beautiful India with the common efforts of government and people of India.
