Are our children safe in Indian Schools?

safety, schools, India, Children,

As a parent, I felt compelled to write this article because for every parent safety of his child is most important thing in this world. Moreover, I don't want that any parent on the earth should go through the pain of losing his child. All parents send their children to school to make their future bright, however, if these schools start taking lives of their children then how they can trust these schools?

Last month, I wrote an article on Increasing Trend of Private Schools in India, through this article, I tried to point out few things like Commercialisation of Education and failure of Government Schools in India. Today, my focus is on the safety of innocent children in these high profile private schools. In recent times, many incidents came to light where children either suffered a fatal accident at school or some school employ physically harassed them (including incidences of rape).

Yesterday's incident of Brutal murder of a 2nd class student (7 Yrs old) of high profile School (Ryan International) in Gurgaon further points out that there is some problem with the education system in India. The concentration of most of these private schools is on making money than ensuring the safety of children. Many such schools, to save money, hire employees without thoroughly checking their background.

Due to this reason, many people with criminal backgrounds or intentions get jobs in such schools. Such employees commit a crime with school children because of their criminal nature. Because of the mistake of such schools, many children suffer and some of them even lose their lives. When parents pay so much of fees, then they can at least expect that their children are safe in the school. But, the yesterday's incident clearly points out that our children are not safe even in the top private schools of the city.

As these schools are run by strong people of society with many political connections, they cross all investigations unhurt. This attitude leads to no stop on such crimes against the children and they are only increasing with each passing day. The time has come when we should question the working of such schools and make them accountable for every single life lost so far.

However, due to the sad nexus of correction and misuse of power, we don't see any action being taken against such schools. In many cases, police even failed to investigate properly and to find the real culprits. Such parents are still waiting for the justice being done to their children.

Today, the time has become when we need to introduce some reforms to safeguard our children in the schools. I hope that government of India will open its eyes on this matter and introduce new and strict rules for the private schools so that they start working with more responsibility.
