What is vinegar used for and Is it healthy or unhealthy?
The use of Vinegar is widespread across the world and we can find vinegar made from various fruits around the globe. Vinegar is used in India since ancient times and it is a common part of our meals and pickles. Vinegar is used for its health benefits to human beings. The use of vinegar provides a balance and sour taste to the food. Recently, scientists have found many health benefits of consuming vinegar regularly from weight loss to sugar management. The common type of vinegar found in India is Rice vinegar, Jamun vinegar, white vinegar, wine vinegar, coconut vinegar, apple cider vinegar etc.
All these vinegar have the same active component and their health benefits are almost the same. We should start consuming good vinegar that is made in a traditional method like our ancestors' so that it holds all the nutrients and active ingredients. It is best to avoid the white vinegar made in factories by a chemical process that lacks many of the benefits associated with vinegar made from real fruits.
Is Vinegar an acid or a base?
Vinegar is a combination of acetic acid (CH3COOH) and water, and to get vinegar, we need to go through a two-step fermentation of ethanol into acetic acid. Acetic acid is the primary acid in vinegar. It is made of two molecules of carbon and four molecules of hydrogen and two molecules of oxygen. The distilled vinegar used at the home has 5-7% acetic acid in it. As per US FDA, a good vinegar must contain 4-7% of acetic acid in it.
Use of vinegar can be found in a wide range of things and many people are increasing its regular use because of the many health benefits added to it. Vinegar is believed to be very beneficial for stomach-related problems and it helps in the digestion of food. It is also helpful in detoxifying the body and reducing sugar levels in the blood. It is also beneficial for heart patients because of its tendency to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood.
As we all know stomach, diabetes and heart problems are common problems faced by the people of today and therefore, taking vinegar in any form can be very beneficial for them.
